TAM admits thrust reverser shut off

The airline admitted late last week that the A320’s right thrust reverser was deactivated during a maintenance check several days before the crash. But TAM emphasized that turning off the thrust reverser was in accordance with regulations “stipulated by the maintenance of the manufacturer Airbus and approved by [Brazil’s] National Civil Aviation Agency.”

Thrust reveser is the professional word for the breaks on jets. This means it was true the aircraft tried to land on a flooded, extremely short runway in the evening without fully functional breaks. Is it only me or do you also think it was a completely hopeless situation?
