Learn More About Steve Fossett’s Plane

Well, this is an aviation-related blog, so until special forces are looking for Mr Fossett, we should learn a little bit about Bellanca Citabria Super Decathlon.

The American Champion Citabria model was first produced in the US in 1964 for flight training purposes and personal use. It is capable of aerobatic stresses between +5 and -2 G (the power that effects your body during free falling is 1 G). The Citabria series production rights were owned by various companies throughout the decades. This particular model, the Decathlon was produced between 1970 and 1982 and later on it was brought back to the market in 1989 for some years.

It is a single engine plane with tandem seats in it. It is 7 m with 10,2 m wingspan. Its empty weight is 504 kg, cruise speed is around 205 km/h and its range is around 800 km.

Here is a video on CNN that explains more about the aircraft. It seems like a nice, safe one. Let’s hope Steve Fossett will be found soon and he is alive.
