The biggest buzz on the internet these days is a Southwest Airlines flight attendant: Mr David Holmes, who is apparently bored of telling the same old sentences flight by flight. Thus he makes an interactive show for the passengers and includes all the necessary information in a short rap performance.
I am not sure it is not a well prepared guerilla marketing action of the airline, but anyway, it is fun, so do not miss it.
If anyone of you has flown together with this guy, please share your experience with us!

So they make announcements while people are still getting settled? Now *that’s* different.
I flew out of OKC on Southwest last year and, because of a delay, the passengers were not happy. This young man entertained the entire group BEFORE boarding and he was fantastic. Lowered the stress level of all the people waiting to board, as well a keeping the children in control! Way to go, David.
I never have flown Southwest Airlines before, but that was just a NICE rap he did, downright sweet.
IMHO..this RAP CRAP is disgusting in ANY presentation! It is an aggravating NOISE, NOT music! I see no humor whatsoever in this nonsense! On MY airline, this jerk would be fired!!
I’m no rap fan either, but if rap can get as much attention from passengers, who normally ignore the flight attendants entirely, then more power to David.
Not sure the rap constitutes the FAA’s approved safety brief though. Aside from the passengers in the aisle, he didn’t point out the briefing cards in the seat back pockets, demonstrate seat belt usage,or explain oxygen mask use…nor did he point out the floor lighting or exits…all important features of passenger safety.
Every airplane is differnt, and every passenger becomes part of the safety team during an emergency…and still they just don’t listen! Kudos to David for breaking that rule!

biappete: I totally agree with you. Though I am sure it was just the fun part, and he or somebody else demonstrated the flight safety features properly afterwards.
I just liked it how the guy had put this boring stuff in a very entertaining way. š And yes, I agree more poeple would listen to the safety demonstrations if it were more interesting.
Some years ago El Al displayed an animation on board featuring the Pink Panther. The well-known music was playing and Pink Panther demonstrated the features himself. It was quite amusing.
szafi – Northwest used to have a “fast talker” version of the entire brief, that they projected just before the FAs did their more routine delivery…he was good…did the whole brief, complete, in about 45 seconds, with maybe one breath in between his words…and it too captured passenger attention…in fact, I found myself trying to keep up with his rapid fire delivery, reinforcing what I should retain from the pitch.

I’ve flown with this guy before…actually I’m in the video that has been getting all the talk these days. That flight occured a couple of weeks ago in Dallas going to Oklahoma City.
It’s refreshing (if you fly a lot) to hear something different for a change. We all know the rules so who cares if it meets the FAA regulations. And for the guy that noted that he didn’t mention all the thing about exiting and bla, bla, bla…he has a completely different rap that you all haven’t heard that addresses all those thing. He did that particular rap on the leg from Austin to Dallas.
It was great!

I have not flown with David on board…but had experience with other talented people at SW. There are not that many airlines out there that would allow an individual to have fun while getting a job well done.
So once again Kudos to SW and talented people like David!

Who cares if he’d be fired on your airline. Your airline isn’t making any money anyhow. That’s why he’s working for SWA and you’re flying for whatever bankrupt, money-losing, poor-service, late-arriving, bag-losing monstrosity that you work for.
Take your tired comments and stale airline and go park on the other side of the airfield.

Ok, so normally I wouldn’t really care much about the drama with the airlines (or railroads) in this country because they are always crying poverty looking for state and federal bailout moneys, while spending on payrolls like a drunken sailor on hookers…
